How to Grow Sorrel

WHEN TO PLANT SORREL SEEDS

Plant directly outdoors after the last frost of the season.

WHERE TO PLANT SORREL SEEDS

Plant Sorrel seeds in a prepared garden bed with average, well draining soils that are exposed to full sun (6-8 hours of sun per day) to partial sun (4-6 hours of sun per day). Soils amended with organic material are preferable but not necessary.

HOW TO PLANT SORREL SEEDS

Scatter seeds via broadcast and lightly cover with soil no deeper than 1/2 of an inch. Seeds will easily establish themselves with little effort, as long as the soil is kept moist in the early stages of development. As plants grow, thin out unhealthy plants until they are 18-24 inches apart.

HOW TO HARVEST SORREL

For new plants, wait 3 months to harvest the first leaves. Avoid harvesting leaves that are under 4 inches long. Cut back flower stalks to produce more leaves and preserve flavor. Harvest throughout the season as desired. Leaves can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or leaves can be frozen to preserve over longer periods.
