🌱Planting instructions:
Black mulberry trees grow very quickly and are not picky about soil type. They thrive in clay, loam or sandy soil, whether alkaline or acidic. They prefer full sun but can also grow in partial shade. However, white mulberries do not tolerate as much shade as the red mulberry native to the United States. Mulberry seeds are dormant and require the cold of winter or a 60-day cold stratification. The easiest method is to simply soak the seeds and then sow them just below the soil surface in the fall and let nature germinate them naturally in the spring.
To sow at other times of the year, you will need a cold cycle (stratification) to mimic winter. After stratification, sow the seeds just below the soil surface and keep the soil moist but not soaked. Keep the seeds at about 86°F during the day and 70°F for 16 hours at night. This is easily accomplished with a heated grow pad. Once the seedlings sprout, transplant them into their own individual pots (4" or larger), being careful not to damage the roots. If there is still a risk of frost, continue to use the grow light and heat mat. When there is no risk of frost, you can move the pots outside to a sunny location. After a year, they are.
